Book description This comprehensive manual on harp making by Jerry Brown, Musicmaker's founder, has received rave reviews from around the world.

Sacred Harp is a traditional New England style of participatory singing that is both dramatic and beautiful. It has been described as a proudly inclusive and democratic form that is not geared toward performance but to the moment of the sing. Sung a cappella in four part harmony, songs are taught by singing the “shapes” and then the words. Sacred Harp music takes its name from a series of American tunebooks called The Sacred ’s participatory, non-instrumental, choral music that anyone is invited to sing — there is no rehearsing for performance — with strong roots in the early music of New England and the deep South, and which has spread throughout the United States and to Canada, Europe, and Australia.
